Building a PageRank
No matter, whether you are having a website or a blog, building a PageRank seems to be something that you can’t afford to miss out. Though, there would be hardly anybody who hasn’t heard about Google PageRank but for those who don’t know PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google, the major search engine, which assigns a numerical value from 0-10. The basis on which this numerical weightage or value is assigned to each element of a hyperlinked set of document on a website, blog or any web page on a world wide web.
PageRank (PR) actually measures the importance of that particular webpage as compared to other websites on the Internet. There are many things that count for a PR, such as the quantity and quality of inbound links, sometimes a few quality outbound links, content relevancy, keyword usage, importance of keywords and key phrases etc. Other factors that also affect PR are the relevance of search words on the page and actual visits to the page reported by the Google using its toolbar.
Though, there are several techniques that help boost the PR of your website or blog, but you as a successful blogger should focus on the content first. You must put content that has several “how to”, “what to do”, “do it yourself” and other most searched terms in it. Instead of using content that has a shelf life, such as news stories, current events etc. you must post content that won’t get obsolete very fast.
Your content should address issues and problems faced by common readers with full of tips and guidelines in it. So if people will find useful information at your blog they are more likely to bookmark your blog and even refer others. Most bloggers and even SEO professional strongly believe that bloggers should focus on the content first and ranking second. If first thing is done properly, second thing is bound to follow it.
Apart from just the main body text, a due care should be given to titles, headings, opening and closing sentences including keywords or search terms people type to find some particular information related to your blog content. Never think like an expert while deciding to write some useful content, instead of that always think like a layman and write like an expert who is writing for laymen in a simple, short and succinct style.
Next, not just focus on the main keywords that people type to look for some particular information, but also use synonyms, plurals and almost identical words for titles, headlines, body text and even while designing category names or sub category names. Also file extensions don’t matter when it comes to better search engine ranking and PR. Therefore, always make sure you never use .exe file extensions. Other most important thing is to use alt text on images and other audio and video files or links on your blog.
Also when shifting or moving your original domain, it is always recommended to use a 301 redirect to preserve your rankings as one of the most precious things in your life. Next most important thing is that never put extra efforts into making Meta tags as Google doesn’t give them much weightage for better ranking. Nowadays there are many tools available that can help achieve better search engine ranking and improved PR such as RankSense that is very easy to implement and install. You can save a lot of time, energy and efforts using them, especially when you are just a beginner.
